Justice Umesh Chandra Sharma
Justice Umesh Chandra Sharma was born on 1st January, 1962 in a well-educated and reputed family of Gorakhpur, U.P. He graduated in B.A. in 1980, LL.B. in 1985 and M.A. Political Science in 1987 from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University at Gorakhpur.
In the 1985 itself, he cleared the UP PCS J exam with 5th rank. He joined the U.P. Judicial Service on 31st August, 1987 and was promoted to the Higher Judicial Service in the year 2003.
His Lordship was posted as the District and Sessions Judge of Sant Kabir Nagar, Sultanpur, Varanasi and Etawah. During the span of more than 37 years of judicial service adjudicated in a wide range of jurisdictions.
His Lordship was elevated as Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad on 25th March 2022 and demitted on 31.12.2023. He was also appointed 'Administrative Judge' for District Amethi, Gonda and Varanasi.
He has attended several seminars, training programs and conferences organised by JTRI Lucknow, IIPA New Delhi & IIM Lucknow.
In 2020, His Lordship represented U.P. Judiciary in World Victimology Seminar held at Chennai.
He writes poetry, stories, ghazals and songs in Hindi. His several stories have been published in the literary columns of national newspapers like 'Dainik Jagaran' & 'Amar Ujala' and literary magazine 'Abhinav Mimansa'. In 1981, his story 'Naukri' was broadcasted from the Gorakhpur Radio Station.
His article on Indian Judicial System was featured in 'Rajbhasha Heerak Jayanti Visheshank 1949-2024' published by Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Rajbhasha, Dept. of Official Language. For his dedication towards professional and literary work in Hindi language, he has been awarded 'Kesari Nath Tripathi Hindi Sahitya Puraskar, 2023.'
His values and family virtues have always inspired him for philanthropic and charitable work.
His hobbies include singing, creative writing, playing badminton and travelling. He is also a movie connoisseur and a cricket aficionado.
His Lordship has joined as a Judicial Member of the Armed Forces Tribunal, Regional Bench, Chandigarh on 13.05.2025.
